Did You Know?

Dr. John R. Brinkley, nationally known as the "Goat Doctor" lived at Marylake in the East End community of Saline County from 1937 - 1942. He received the name because he would transplant the sex glands of young buck goats into humans to restore sexual potency and good health.

Healthcare

Healthcare in the region contributes significantly to our economy. The Metro Little Rock region is home to over 3,100 physicians practicing in 180 healthcare facilities in the region. Children's Hospital is one of the ten largest children's specialty facilities in the nation. The Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System serves U.S. veterans throughout the Central Arkansas region and the State. The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences has "Centers of Excellence" ranging from cancer research and treatment, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, pediatrics, to geriatrics. The Reynolds Center on Aging was recognized as one of the top 10 geriatric facilities in the nation by U.S. News & World Report in 2002. U.S. News & World Report also named Baptist Health as one of the "50 Best Hospitals" in the nation in 2005.

The region is home to many excellent public and private healthcare facilities that provide comprehensive healthcare services for our communities.
