Conway sets itself apart from other communities through a partnership that began at the turn of the 20th century. Citizens successfully raised private investment three times by 1907 to recruit Hendrix College, the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) and Central Baptist College to the city. During the depression, when the community faced losing two of its colleges, community leaders envisioned a funding solution - the Conway Corporation was formed and bonds were issued against future revenue from the city's municipal electric company. Today the Conway Corporation provides electric, water, wastewater, cable, and high-speed cable internet access to city residents as it continues to help support community education.
Conway Corporation's extremely competitive electric rates and personalized service make utility costs a bargain. Couple these low rates with the access to excellent public schools and higher education, and you begin to understand Conway's business appeal. Almost 40 percent of the adult population has at least a bachelor's degree and available housing stock in Conway is plentiful. The city's viable downtown business district is complemented by beautiful college campuses and business space including a new office and technology park on 180 acres called "The Meadows." Plans are underway to develop a new airport and large industrial park on 760 acres near the Arkansas River.
A community that embraces the entrepreneur, Conway has a history of welcoming new ideas and nurturing start-ups which have become leaders in the field of information technology, construction and manufacturing. Its location along Interstate 40 just 30 minutes from the intersection of Interstates 30 and 40 and only 35 minutes from the Little Rock National Airport makes Conway easily accessible.
Living is good in this community on the Arkansas River where citizens from Conway and throughout the state celebrate each year at the family-oriented Toad Suck Daze festival. There's plenty to do in town, without door activities at Lake Conway, Beaverfork Lake, and Tucker Creek Trail, sports and music events at UCA and Hendrix College, the Conway Symphony Orchestra, Baum Gallery of Art, the Faulkner County Historical Museum, the Conway Community Arts Spotlight Theatre and UCA Public Appearance Series. When you're in Conway, stop by Stoby's, a local restaurant with creamy cheese dip known statewide, Mike’s Place in downtown or the Oak Street Bistro. You'll leave happy, and you'll want to be back soon.
